😬Things That Make IT People Nervous (A Non-Scary List)

IT professionals don’t panic easily — but there are certain things that make us pause, take a deep breath, and say, “Okay… let’s talk about this.”

At CloudCore IT Solutions, we see these situations all the time. This isn’t meant to scare anyone or call anyone out — just a lighthearted look at the kinds of things that quietly make IT teams nervous… and why they matter.

📝 1️⃣ Passwords Written on Sticky Notes

What we see:

A password taped to a monitor, desk, or drawer.

Why it makes us nervous:

Anyone who walks by can see it — including visitors, vendors, or cleaning staff. It also usually means the same password is reused everywhere.

The fix:

Password managers + unique passwords + MFA. Easier and safer.

🖥️ 2️⃣ Computers Running “Whatever Version Came With It”

What we hear:

“I think it’s Windows 10… maybe?”

Why it makes us nervous:

Outdated operating systems don’t get security updates, making them easy targets for attackers.

The fix:

Regular patching, lifecycle planning, and replacing systems before they hit end-of-life.

🗄️ 3️⃣ A Server Living Under Someone’s Desk

What we see:

A dusty server humming away next to a space heater.

Why it makes us nervous:

No cooling, no power protection, no physical security — and one spilled coffee away from disaster.

The fix:

Proper server placement, UPS protection, or moving workloads to secure cloud infrastructure.

💾 4️⃣ “We Have Backups… Somewhere”

What we hear:

“We set them up years ago.”

Why it makes us nervous:

Backups that haven’t been tested may not work when you actually need them.

The fix:

Automated backups, regular test restores, and documented recovery plans.

📧 5️⃣ “That Email Looked Weird, So I Just Ignored It”

What we hear:

“I didn’t click it, so I figured it was fine.”

Why it makes us nervous:

Ignoring suspicious emails means IT never gets a chance to investigate or protect others.

The fix:

Report suspicious emails immediately — even if you didn’t interact with them.

🔌 6️⃣ Power Strips Daisy-Chained Together

What we see:

Power strip → power strip → power strip.

Why it makes us nervous:

It’s a fire hazard and terrible for sensitive electronics.

The fix:

Proper power distribution, surge protection, and UPS devices where needed.

🧠 7️⃣ “Nothing’s Changed” (When Something Definitely Changed)

What we hear:

“We didn’t change anything.”

Why it makes us nervous:

Something always changed — updates, settings, hardware, permissions, or usage patterns.

The fix:

Change tracking, monitoring, and documentation.

😌 The Good News: These Are All Fixable

Every item on this list is common — and completely solvable with proactive IT management.

At CloudCore IT Solutions, our job isn’t to judge — it’s to help businesses move from “fingers crossed” IT to calm, predictable, boring-in-a-good-way technology.

As a veteran-owned company with four generations of military service, we believe preparedness prevents panic — in IT and everywhere else.

✅ When IT Is Boring, Business Is Better

If any of these made you laugh and feel a little called out — that’s okay. The goal isn’t perfection. It’s progress.

And if you ever want your IT team to stop being quietly nervous, we’re happy to help.
